Flora – Almunecar, Spain

The photographs were taken in and around Almunecar, mainly at :

Parque Botánico El Majuelo Botanical gardens containing Europe’s largest collection of subtropical plants, with more than 400 species, representing plants of all tropical areas of the world such as Central and South America, Africa, the Philippines and New Zealand, highlighting the numerous specimens of palms. It also has the added attraction of being located in the historic heart of the city, next to the old fish salting factory founded by the Phoenicians in 4th Century BC, at the foot of the Castillo de San Miguel.

Castillo de San Miguel – A once mighty Moorish fortress. The fortifications were originally built in the 1st century B.C. by the Phoenicians and Romans, but it was during the Moorish occupation that it became a huge fortress with forty towers and three gates.

Playa de San Cristobal Beach – Almunecar’s best-known and largest palm tree lined beach.
